The Art of Contemplation
In making utilitarian means and to an end in themselves, art also imitates third nature. In doing so, the artist acts like God who after making his creatures steps back, a cease that it is good and rests. The work of art reflects on this gratuity of the act of existence as an insight. It can become an expression of joy of celebrating the gift of existence and gratitude. Art makes the homo-farber into homo sapiens again. And for human beings, contemplation may very well never be without such making.
