Bengal experienced 12 famines and four evere scarcities in 90 years. The british east india company had disrupted the intricate cultural systems that had formed during and before the mugal empire. In order to compensate for the minimul amount of actual government work the company needed to do in order to turn a profit, they just started jacking up taxes on rural workers and on farm sand.
