The Effects of Botox on the Recognition of Emotions

The University of California Irvine investigated this by doing brain scans on 10 healthy women in their 30s before and after they had Botox injections. There were changes in activity in two brain areas that are involved in processing emotions. The amygdala and the fusiform gyrus when the participants looked at those happy and angry faces but not neutral images. And the researchers think this is because after getting Botox the women couldn't mimic the happy and angry expressions as well as they used to.
