Umpires Believe That They Can See the World More Clearly
The men and equipment dancing up and down the green field in florida are a lot like people who don't go to umpire school. Most us think that we're were getting a direct readout of reality. Psychologist richard nisbit works at the university of michigan, where for years he's studied how people like you and i perceive the world around us. And he says that the way those umpires feel about their calls is pretty much how all of us feel about our calls.
