The Overexposed Madonna in Body of Evidence
Critics seemed unable to shift modes of viewing and analysis when watching a Madonna film. In New York Magazine, David Denby even credited Madonna with body of evidence's costuming. He also bought into misogynistic gossip that in the sex scenes, Madonna directs the action herself. If anything, Madonna seems to thrive as a performer when she can work with someone, like Fincher, like Warren Beatty who also likes to take control.
