I think Dustin Hoffman totally killed that cat. He becomes completely ineffectual in any way whatsoever. There is one moment where the rat man says, you know, it's good to have rats around like more rats. The more I work, it's sort of like he's laughing about it. Sort of like as long as there's rats, I've got a job. So the cat is basically killing his livelihood.
