Breaking the Ice With New Students
Class rooms can be intimidating places for students, especially at the start of a first year. On cold days, i'll have a video of a snapping, crackling, roaring fire playing on the screen as they enter. If you've got a particularly quiet cohort, these videos are useful when you break the class up into smaller discussion groups. They also create a background verbal that allows students to talk to each other without being the loudest person in the room and without being overheard.
