Is There a Balance Between Cognitive Focus and Lower Brain Wave Mode?
The brain isn't really designed to stay focused without breaks. Air traffic controllers and simultaneous translators can't work more than an hour and a half or two hours without taking a break. A lot of it gets down to something called decision fatigue. The biology of the brain doesn't distinguish between making little decisions and big ones. And so we wonder why people are winding up with this huge stress factor that just seems to be endemic in the culture.
