Philothea: I have renounced forever your follies and vanities, O King of pride. Philothea: Do not allow yourself to be troubled with any kind of hesitation. Open then your heart without reservation and cast out your sins by confession. Contrition and confession are so beautiful and fragrant that they drive out the ugliness of sin and disperse its bitterness. The scorpion has a venomous sting, but when this is distilled to oil it becomes a powerful remedy against its own sting. So too, sin is shameful only when you commit it.
