Trust in Media and Institutions

When I talk to high schoolers and middle schoolers, the comment that does bother me the most is when students will say, well I don't believe anything. If we can't even trust the fact checkers, we are in trouble. And if we only retreat to our nearest neighbors on social media or nearest neighbors in the physical world, that's not enough for us to get a sense of really what's true and what's not out there. We have to have some agreed upon norms and institutions by which we can have these conversations disagree at times but hopefully be able to do it in a way where we're trying to be smarter collectively, not just trying to look smart.
