The Importance of Scientific Publications

There are in the world today no less than 33,000 different scientific periodicals. The number of entries in biological abstracts has grown from 14,506 in 1927 to 21,531 in 1934. A large quantity of good scientific work may be permanently lost because it was not appreciated when it was published. Publication is often premature and dictated by the need of establishing priorities.
