Popper's Democritus Atomic Theory
Aristotle developed essentialism, the idea that substances had an essence that was unchanging but they also had a potential which did change. Popa praises democritus's solution to the problem of what causes changes being the framework within which properly scientific problems could be solved. A theory or explanation needed to be in agreement with experience. And so we had an understanding of combustion and sound, the hardness of material state, changes, ind thirmal physics and so on. All from Democritus attempt to provide a solution to whether or not matter had a fundamental nature,. namely, an indivisible form.
