Stop Medication for Mental Health Problems

The big worry when you stop medication is with our withdrawal symptoms. There is probably a withdrawal syndrome of some sort after stopping any sort of medication for mental health problems. We know in fact that the brain adapts to the presence of a drug within hours and days of people taking it. It's the same with drugs that reduce anxiety like benzodiazepines. When you stop taking them, your anxiety increases rapidly again at often two levels above which it was before you started taking the medication. So people really need to be aware of withdrawal effects. They can be reduced by reducing medication gradually and doing a proper tapering regime.
