Aspy is a strange and interesting beast that would be a source of good stories. The press gallery worked out almost from day one, that this was a strange andinteresting beast. Defence was the sole provider of advice for 20 or so years before government wanted more sources of advice. In all those areas there were needs and niches that aspy could come to fill. That's been really a great part of its success. Iits ability to stand in the middle of that canbra game and help the understanding, help the debate.
