If you think a war i's going to go six weeks and it goes five ears, usually you'd want to hold somebody accountable. I mean, think about te the calculus of the us. Government or the european union,. right down they are not entering this fight directly. They are taking some risks, armingen more directly. But but they there, they conce hat the worst case in area is pretty clear. Andnd, they shouldn't get involved. Just as russia shouldn't have invaded ukraine... There were better ways to do with this than fighting so damn costly.
It's tempting to explain Russia's invasion of Ukraine with Putin's megalomania. Blattman explains why only a fraction of rivalries ever erupt into violence, the five main reasons adversaries can't arrive at compromise, and the problem with trying to get into Putin's head (and why it's not all about Putin. Really).
