Asceticism and the Gospel
The world is rediscovering the kind of asceticism that actually predates the Christian faith. And so, yeah, there's different ways of conceiving the notion of self-denial and there are different motivations for why people will indulge it. But there are definitely a large amount of benefits that come just in the direction of being able to take some of our instincts and appetites,. if you will, and orient them in ways that are maximally beneficial to us.
