In 20 14, nil de gras tyson hosted a reboot of karl sagan's cosmo seriesx. It follows closely the narrative we read in draper and white. The very first episode opens with their fabled story of bruno and his encounter with the inquisition. He was burned at the stake for declaring an infinite universe and the possibility of multiple worlds. But he did not die as a martyr to science. His claims were theological claims. In the end, that is what got him in trouble. And the church massively over reacted to their eternal shame.
