The Future of Childcare

In 1971, we were going to have universal childcare when both the house and the Senate passed a comprehensive universal childcare bill that Nixon vetoed. When a program is universal, you have like widespread buy-in and wide-spread support. In New York City, 4K is universal and it's guaranteed. And I think it's just absolutely true with these systems for preschool and for childcare. If we don't have it in a universal fashion, it becomes stigmatized and it becomes underfunded and neglected.
