By 1933 Nazis were organizing riots at performances of Weil's music. They were incensed that his stylistic marriage of Germanic music and American popular music was so popular. My favorite work of his is the remarkable Seven Deadly Sins, his last collaboration with Bertold Brecht. It is a biting critique of capitalism set in multiple American cities.
