How to Write in More Than One Language
I teach at the University of Miami, we have a whole bunch of other languages that are happening at our university. So my idea is always that when when the language comes up, it's a part of the authenticity for the character. I think young readers, when they're learning how to read, they figure out a word through context clues. These are the ways that we can write with non-English words and also how a character acts and reacts to what is being said. You don't have to explain it. You just let the story roll, and readers will follow.
