Lacan: The monkey wrench in this system is going to be the unconscious. He's looking for this notion of the unconscious here as something that would be the cause and condition of possibility for thought itself. Lacan rejects any notion of infallibility, completion, harmony, union. There is no universe of discourse. It has only helped precisely from the gap.
