Sally Ride: The First American Woman in Space
In 1935, Sally Ride earns her masters specializing in astrophysics and free electron lasers. She then goes on to get her PhD in 1978. While she's finishing her post-grad studies at Stanford, she applies to the NASA astronaut group eight program. On June 18th of 1983,. Sally Ride takes her first trip to space in NASA's seventh space shuttle mission, STS seven aboard the space shuttle challenger. There were two female Russian astronauts, cosmonauts. I think they called them that got their first on it, but she is the first American woman.
