The Festival of Lights - The Smooth Operation

The idea of the smooth operation is very appealing. It gave me occasion to pause, like, why doesn't my field say this exactly? And I think what's happened, especially in media studies, is there is a getting wrapped up in the object itself and not thinking about things like desire and lack and certainly the psyche. The idea comes from Raymond Williams who says that when you watch television for the first time it all flows together.
