The Sound of the Coral Reef
The sounds of the coral reef are a rich tapestry of acoustic life that you hear underwater. It's something I really enjoyed studying, getting my teeth into learning more about as I carried on through this PhD. We're designed to hear in air so we need some specialized equipment to properly appreciate it. But when we listen with these hydrophones, these special underwater microphones, what we hear is really a very great variety of different sounds made at different times of day and for different purposes.
