In Moscow Shadow - Shuyu Gugerasimov

One of the great strengths of the Shuyu Gugerasimov double act was precisely I would suggest to depoliticize the military in the right way. They left them feeling relatively happy, relatively confident and we've got to remember after all that they took over from a period when the generals were roundly despising their former defense minister Seul Jukov. The regime is still strong but increasingly brittle losing so many of its reservoirs of potential resources with which to deal with crises. But on the other hand if as and when there is some particular crisis some particular pressure on this system I don't think the status quo will be delighted to champion it.
