Paul Rossin's paper, Glad to be sad and other examples of benign masochism was published in the not so sexily named judgment and decision-making journal. He had people rate on a scale from I think 0 to 100 how much they would want to do these things that are negative emotions. The sensation of burning is one subscale. Sad movies, sad novels, sad music, etc. There's a disgust subscale.
