The Importance of Being a Single Mom
"I was out there trying to not be in a gang. Unless we were always trying to create one," he says. "We tried to create a couple of gangs but there was just nothing to do." His mom, who worked at his school, kept an eye on him and made sure he did the right thing when it came to making choices. He describes her as 'pretty controlling' But she didn't have many other tools or options for dealing with kids like himself.
