The Right Way to Think About History

i find striking that this particular view of history is shared by the left and the right. I mean very much, that the right way to think about history is in terms of this decentralized, co operative, cursive, experimental model. It's not all about people coming in and imposing their will from the top. So the right and left share more in common. And i think this is a part of, to be honest, a reconsideration of history through a more complex lens. Because we clearly oscillate between these two states. Historians perhaps have over emphasized the role of the rational leader and diminished the importance of more democratic means of arriving at solutions.
