I've never really heard a convincing explanation for why humans have APO B when it seems that every other species gets away without it. This to me is one of the most interesting teleologic slash evolutionary questions, which is, was God just pissed off at us? My dogs, pigs, rabbits, they all make APO B in both the gut and the liver. It's not that these species don't have APo B. The differences in terms of looking at the steady state plasma levels is that their APO B system is just markedly revved up. Dan Rader is a Professor at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, where he conducts translational research on lipoprotein metabolism and atherosclerosis with a particular focus on the function of high-density lipoproteins (HDLs).
