The Rise and Fall of Indie Classical Music
The book goes back to my dissertation, which was something I was working on in grad school. And the longer arc of that is that I became really interested in contemporary classical music in undergrad via like reading Alex Ross's amazing book The Rest Is Noise. People like Nico Mule and Judd Greenstein were kind of up and coming then and are kind of more established now. Bangana Can emerged in the late 1980s or early 1990s as a group of composers with their own ideas about what new music could be.
