EU recognises it's in Rishi Sunak's interest to try and do a deal. If he doesn't, the UK could override key parts of the Northern Ireland Agreement. This would risk a trade war with what is the UK's biggest trade partner. But if you do this deal, you really are building trust. And that opens up the possibilities for future agreements.
