A lot of financial advisors don't actually have a fiduciary duty to you. They operate under a lower standard, often called the suitability standard. You could take somebody to court if they put their needs ahead of your needs. But it's still something I would expect to see in someone I was willing to pay thousands of dollars to be my financial advisor.
