The Relationship Between Ideological Conflict and Resource Extraction

I think that ideology and resource requirements are intertwined, especially when you look at the picture from the point of view of people intervening in these places from the outside. But it's perfectly possible to have a sort of, not a watertight ideology, but a kind of waterproof ideology that allows you to conduct all kinds of business with the enemy. It's never been a problem as far as I can see. The Congo or DRC very symptomatic in that sense, as this place where oftentimes Africa has been thought of as somewhat on the periphery of the global capitalist system.
