Dante's Relationship With Beatrice

Dante wrote one of his earliest works unfinished, it's called Dave Vulgari Eloquentia and was a text about the vulgar tongue. And so maybe we can sort of start there by thinking about the tradition of poetry within which Dante is operating as he starts to write this little book on Beatrice. The Provence poets are very important for Dante. In the kind of romantic gesture, the youthful and longing romantic gesture that they make. This will move and travel into Italy in many ways via Sicily.
