The Colthursts' Wreckage
Two bodies were found under a separate layer of fiberglass. Mark and Irene Colthurst had been executed with a 22-caliber firearm. A burnt Ruger Mini-14 semi-automatic rifle was also recovered in the wreckage. Investigators suspected that all the victims were shot and killed beforehand. Between five and seven pounds of bone fragments were found where the deckhands slept. No trace of John Cowanhurst's youngest child, who may have been taken from the vessel.
