Andy Shekman: Most investors don't truly grasp what inflation will do to their holdings. John Williams of shadow stats.com tells us that inflation is truly at 17%, 18%. National Bureau of Economic Research came out with a report not too long ago in July, when inflation measured by the CPI was 9%. And they said if we took the 13.6% inflation of June of 1980 and applied the same metrics that are being applied today, that number would actually be 9%.
