Most socialisms that have developed historically have been in the imperial periphyry. What this means is that these places did not have entirely developed industry of all forms, both a heavy and light industry. So what was the very first thing that most of these socialisms needed to do? They fell into this mine set of siege socialism. And one of the very first ways of kind of forming this layer of defense is developing heavy industry so that they can be ready for military action if need be. This drain from other sectors of the economy includes checker patterned panties - i'll give you why.
