Cannibalism is considered to be a near universal taboo meaning in most cultures around the world. Odysseus and his crew had found their way to Lystergonia, an island that is found in modern day Sicily. It was home to wild animals and deadly plants including blood-sucking cannabis. When these giants saw OdysseUS' men wandering along the beach, they suddenly felt like they were at an all-you-can-eat buffet.
