Photographs of the missile bases were obtained by an American U2 spy plane. This touched off a 13 day crisis, which began on Tuesday, October 16 and ran to Sunday, October 28. At the last minute, President Kennedy and Premier Khrushchev struck a deal,. part of which was public, and part ofwhich was secret. The Soviets would remove from Cuba the means which you regard as offensive if we removed our missiles from Turkey.
