The Differences Between the UK and the US in Race and Class

Non-traditional students were excluded through different mechanisms and different ways in which they were constantly reminded that they were outsiders. Their experiences were both delineated by class and by race. Students of colour felt as though they had to adapt to the elite university environment in order to make their student experiences more comfortable. But at the same time, they still felt excluded within that space.
