And from the left, bobby kennedy emerges as a fierce political adversary. By 19 68, things have gotten so bad for l b j that he chooses not to run for re election. He felt that he wasn't effective any more at passing key legislation. As of 20 19, the poverty rate in the us was around half what it was before the war on poverty began.
