The Cultural Cache of Being a National News Story

There's cultural cachet in having the story and being a national news story, all of a sudden. And maybe beyond the victimhood, just the attention. I'm less mad at her than Jesse Smollett, because she didn't single out an entire half of the country based on political ideology to blame and make that up. But it becomes problematic because it incentivizes bad behavior.
