Bishop Lemie was the archbishop of Santa Fe from 1875 to 1888. In 1927, Willa Cather published a novel that was a fictionalized version of his life. Death Comes for the Archbishop has been named several times as one of the top 100 novels of the 20th century. It's still in print today so you can easily read it for yourself.
