Acute Decompensated Heart Failure - What Does the Data Show?
The Travers Study is the first randomized control trial for fluid restriction and acute decompensated heart failure. There was no difference in duration or daily dose of IV diuretics, time to symptomatic improvement,. total daily fluid output, or average hospitalization weight loss between the two groups. More patients who were actually withdrawn from the fluid restricted arm due to a rise in their creatinine, suggesting harm; that wasn't statistically significant.
