The Squandong Scheme and the Cultural Revolution in China
Parents were sold idea that the next generation will go to university and build a stronger China. They don't want them working back on the farm do they? Xi Jinping himself was actually sent down to the countryside and was stuck there for seven years so I think some of these parents will be thinking I don't want the same thing to happen to my child. Squandong scheme is saying that they wouldn't be doing as much manual labor as they would be doing trying to revive local townships and countryside villages by taking their expertise.
