Is There a Conflict of Interest?
There are two potential conflicts of interest here. The first is money going to the Prime Minister, about which we still know very little. The second is Richard Sharp's appointment to lead the BBC. He was a man with close connections to the government thanks to his work for Rishi Sunak and a £400,000 donation to the Conservative Party. And yet, while conversations were taking place about the loan, his appointment was approved. It prompted something close to a mutiny at the BBC. Staff there looked at the sequence of events and concluded that their chairman had smoothed his past to the job. They summoned Richard Sharp to explain himself. But he said he sought meetings with Simon Case specifically
