The Common Causes of Hypoventilation
Common causes of hypoventilation include neuromuscular diseases that affect the diaphragm or intercostal muscles. On physical exam, look for kyphoscolyosis and asymmetrical chest expansion. The presence of tachypnea with associated wheeze may be indicative of an asthma or COPD exacerbation.
