Mihail speronsky was the influential adviser and then defacto prime minister to tzar alexander. He pushed for national, participatory autocracy instead of constitutional monarchy. But as we'll see in a second, more than a few people named checked by future cadets as their intellectual and spiritual forbears were not really liberal in any sense that we would understand.
