What Happens to Those People Who Use CPI as the Benchmark?

Inflation isn't five point one % or five point four %, wherever it comes in on a moanthy basis. What happens to those people who are using c p i as the bench mark? Do they just succumb to the inflation overtime and continue to lose money until they wake up? Or something else? I think that the capital is structured in such a way, there's enough inertia in the system they could take 30 years for for the capital to get reallicated like were waging a war on the 60 forty portfolio.
