Dreaming During Rem Sleep
Physiologist eugene arensky wired up his eight year old son to an old e e g machine he found in the basement of the university of chicago. He discovered that when people woke up during rem sleep, they often reported dreaming. Cycles of rem sleep occur every 19 minutes or so, lasting up to half an hour. As adults, it accounts for around a quarter of our sleep time. However, we now know that dreams can occur during other stages of sleep too, when our brain is much less active. It may be during sleep that we lose our muscle tone that when we're having a dream, we don't act out all these emotional scenes that are occurring in sleep
